J.P.'s Big Daddy Biscuits Recipe
Homemade fluffy biscuits are easy to make with this simple recipe using plenty of baking powder to help create giant biscuits. Serve with gravy or butter and jam.
I don't mean to sound critical because I hate those type of people. However, these biscuits were probably the worst biscuits I have ever made. And to top it off...I made them for the 1st time when my mother-in-law was in town. So I'm sure you can feel my pain. Honestly,if you want a good buttermilk biscuit recipe, open up the Betty Crocker Cookbook. My mother-in-law came back into town and I tried the recipe from the cookbook. OUTSTANDING! Sorry John.
I've been using this recipe for almost two years now, so I guess it's about time for me to review it. These biscuits are very easy to prepare, and they yield very big (although the recipe may exaggerate this a little bit) and very fluffy biscuits. I make these for biscuits and gravy, and they pair perfectly. Whenever I need a biscuit recipe, I just look for J.P's big daddy biscuits, because I know they won't ever let me down.
This has become my standard biscuit recipe...it is fantastic! In addition to making the traditional plain biscuits, I have used this recipe to make cinnamon biscuits, as well as a crust for chicken pot pie. To make a crust for a 9x13 pan of pot pie filling, make one batch JP's biscuits and roll into a rectangle to cover top of filling in pan. No bottom crust needed, bake until golden! Turned out fabulous! I highly recommend this recipe. :-)
I used this recipe to make cinnamon rolls and it was awesome!!! Followed the recipe exactly, but when I rolled it out I put a thin layer of butter as the dough, sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar, rolled, cut and baked at the same temp. Tried other biscuit recipes that didn't work. This was AWESOME! Big and fluffy great taste! Thanks big daddy!!!!!!
